A Tree in another language

It’s been a while since I did a little bit of Afrikaans.  And as the other stuff I have to say would take more time than I have at the moment, I think I’ll see if I can find a few nice Afrikaans words, like:

“Wortel”: I’ve put some “wortels” in the chicken dish I made for today’s lunch.  It is orange and come from under the ground.  Obviously it is carrots.  But we use the same word for “roots” – wether it is the roots of trees, or the “roots” a person has in his culture or family or country.  It could also be used for something like : “the root of the problem”.

Since I refered to the roots of a Tree, well a “Tree” is translated as “Boom” Now, here the pronounciation is quite important.  We do not say “boom” as in “baby boom”  – its more like the “o” om “worm”.  The same goes for “Droom” (Dream) and “Room” (Cream).

And going from the word “Boom” to an example of of a tree:

The Kameeldoringboom

As usual I really enjoyed this. Maybe I’ll post on something more serious later.

Ps.: I have no idea where this tree stands, but it is a nice one, although not as big as they can be.  I only found this photo here
